Dance then wherever You may be... G U I Dance

Hui Min sent me this email and I thought it was really cool. In one of my earlier posts, I referred to the song I Hope You Dance by Ronan Keating. It SO is related to this :)

Dancing With God
When I meditated on the word Guidance,
I kept seeing 'dance' at the end of the word.
I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.
When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.
The movement doesn't flow with the music,
and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.
When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead,
both bodies begin to flow with the music.
One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back
or by pressing Lightly in one direction or another.
It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness,
and attentiveness from one person
and gentle guidance and skill from the other.
My eyes drew back to the word Guidance.
When I saw 'G: I thought of God, followed by 'u' and 'i'.
'God, 'u' and 'i' dance.'
God, you, and I dance.
As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust
that I would get guidance about my life.
Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you today is that God's blessings
and mercies be upon you on this day and everyday.
May you abide in God as God
abides in you.
Dance together with God, trusting God to lead
and to guide you through each season of your life.
There is no cost but a lot of rewards;
so let's continue to pray for one another.
And I Hope You Dance

Anyway, that was just something extra.

For no apparent reason, especially at a time when I really ought to be finishing my homework... I suddenly thought of something Simeon said during one of our Cornerstone meetings. Not just any meeting, but it was a meeting last year! I know it's crazy, so random, but it just popped into my head and I decided to blog about it before I forget it. (not really sure but I MAY have blogged about it before, think I'm getting old)

HIGHWAY! First thing that the word Highway reminds me of is the song Life Is A Highway by Rascal Flatts. Those who watched Cars should be quite familiar with that song. Here's what I gathered from Simeon's umm... teaching/reflection/sharing thingy.

Life IS like a highway. It's a journey all of us have to take. We all have the same destination in mind at the end of the road. The road might be long for some, short for others. It WILL be bumpy at times, more bumpy at certain times. Along the way, there are many exits. Exits that make us stray from the Highway, exits that lead to Petrol Stations for us to renew, refuel and recharge, and of course exits that lead back to where we came from. Before each exit, there are always SIGNs that tell us where we are and helps lead us to where we want to go.

Where do we go to renew, recharge and refuel? What turns us away from our destination?

Sometimes, we speed through life (ain't that fun :) ), never stopping, never looking back. We move so darn fast we never get the chance to look at the signs properly before we zoom past them. We never look back, never stopping to check whether we have already gone past our intended destination. We never slow down to figure out where we made a wrong turn and where we have to make corrections to our route. We speed along life thinking, we only live life once, so let's enjoy it. We speed so fast sometimes that people around us gets affected.

Are we like that? Doing what we want, not knowing whether we have made a positive difference in the lives of the people around us. Will we eventually stray off our original path, getting sidetracked by all the exits around us that lead to dead ends?

Sometimes we are so cautious and umm... rigid (for lack of better word) that we keep checking where we are, always looking back, never really moving forward. We become STAGNANT. We plan and plan, afraid to do things for fear of getting hurt. Hurt from rejection, embarrassment, physical injury, betrayal... We are afraid of stepping out of a comfort zone we created, never expanding it. We like where we are and we don't want things to change even if there is a chance that we could be much happier. We never improve.

We tell ourselves there is that chance, but it is only a chance. What if I... What if others... What if they... We never see the most important what if, What If God wanted me to take that first step?

The road laws are much like the Church's teachings and the signs are very much like the... well... the signs. Subtle signs that God gives us to lead us on the path to Him, signs that we might miss if we never slow down, signs that we might not dare follow if we never take the risk to do so.

He is our G-U-I-Dance. If only we would let Him take the lead, step up to that challenge guys!
